Death is an irreversible ending. In life it may come too soon but in spirituality the death of the ego does not come soon enough.
Whilst one may never be quite ready for death, there is always something more to do. A person can have their most personal issues resolved.
Knowing who you are, having done your best and followed your heart. These are some of the areas in which you can fulfil yourself.
Changing the planet and the course of history is something which your mind and ego may try to do but eventually upon physical death will have to give up.
Death of the ego is not as morbid as it sounds, it's like getting rid of the sleep from eyes. You will enjoy and greatly benefit for the rest of your life. But the identification with the ego is what causes the pain when the ego is on the way out of your life.
Time and time again I find that those who claim to want to be "spiritually free" actually, in fact, want only to acquiesce to their ego, but with a little more comfort. It isn't possible because the ego causes unremitting pain punctuated with brief moments of numbness.
Dreams often come from the ego and relate to this world. With the death of the ego, old self and world dies away to replaced by something unimaginably beautiful.
